Pendennis Shipyard, Cornwall
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Pendennis Shipyard produces a vast array of one off super yachts.
Competing within a high value world market, the company has experienced significant growth. With this increased level of demand, operational issues and facilities have needed to be addressed.
A new 400 tonne mobile crane hoist was commissioned to bring the boats to water, and thus a new jetty was required to service this new plant.
PROJECT DETAIL
The jetty consisted of a series of driven steel piles into the seabed connected in pairs by sets of precast concrete pile caps.
On top of these were precast concrete crosshead beams which were all stitched together with an in situ concrete deck which created the platform from which the new mobile crane hoist could operate.
Both the pile caps and the crosshead beams had sockets cast-in which were utilised for temporary edge protection as well as for bolting on permanent ladder access.
