Lyme Regis Coastal Protection, Dorset
PROJECT OVERVIEW
CCP cast hundreds of sea defence walls with 65% cement replacement by GGBS in addition to 100% secondary aggregates of ‘ecocrete’ concrete.
By choosing the precast route, the main contractor was no longer affected by tidal flows in terms of when units were cast, and could thus go forward with more contract period certainty.
Concrete is the material of choice for sea defence works, and by choosing the precast concrete route, the main contractor’s programme would no longer be affected by tidal flows in terms of when units were cast, and could thus go forward with more contract period certainty.
PROJECT DETAIL
Indeed, CCP completed the works for the main contractor ahead of schedule which saved the main contractor significant preliminary costs.
Additional units faced with black granite on the façade for the visual sections of the sea wall were cast in pneumatically operated steel moulds speeding up production time and further reducing labour costs.
