MAYFLOWER MARINA, PLYMOUTH
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This contract was an extension to the existing quay at Mayflower Marina.
Its construction consisted of steel piles driven into the sea bed upon which one metre square fairfaced precast pile caps were fitted. The precast pile caps had a steel plate cast-in which was subsequently welded to the steel pile.
Spanning between these precast pile caps was a matrix of rebated precast beams with protruding steel reinforcement. Into these rebates sat CCP Demidec planks which were manufactured in CCP’s state of the art carousel plant.
PROJECT DETAIL
These units had lattice girder reinforcement protruding from the slab to tie into the insitu concrete topping thereby making a completely monolithic quayside decking slab.
The use of Demidec planks eliminated the need for onsite formwork and they were specifically designed by CCP’s in-house design team to ensure adequate cover to reinforcement and that no propping was required when the insitu slab was poured above as this
would have been extremely onerous at sea.
